Global English

Can you imagine why many people learn English as a second language? The reason is that English become the big existence in the world as a global language. There are three reasons how I reached this consequence, hope, possibilities, and global standard.

How many people who learn English with hope for their better future in the world? There is no doubt that many of foreign students entrust it with a dream. People try to master English for their brilliant future. In China, the Chinese become obliged to start studying English from third grade in low. Children actually study twelve hours everyday to enter a better school, and to get a better job. If English is replaced the position as a global language by the other language now, how do they find a new aim for their better life? English has already represented hope for better future any more.

English spreads through as a second language all over the world at the moment. People can find every possibility. At first, English provides a global conversation. Thanks to English, people can take the communication globally as well as one’s country. It leads an expansion of one’s perspective. Taking conversation, or deepen exchange with foreign people make people understand a new things, or make them realize the importance of their own culture.

Currently, there are four hundred millions native English speakers, and another four hundred millions non-natives who speak English as a second language in the world. Furthermore, eight hundred million people speak English not as the first and second language. It means one of four people uses English all over the world. English is pervasive widely. Thus, how long times will the other language take if it becomes a global language instead of English? The position of English as the official language is high in a business talk, an international conference, arts, and sciences meeting, or the international sporting event. Moreover, there are more than 60 countries, which regard English as an official language. Additionally, all is prescribed in English from technical terms to regulations, and it is written, talked , transmitted, sheared, and described at the scene of the Science, the technology, and the business management. Seeing from such a point, English is a world standard, and is becoming the global value.

From these points, it may be said that English is the language that is necessary to raise a market price of one's ability globally. English is already a global language.

My favorite movie "The Devil Wears Prada"

After seeing the movie, you must want to go shopping for fashionable stuffs to an urban like N.Y.C. and Paris! The Devil Wears Prada is a 2006 comedy-drama film, a loose screen adaptation of Lauren Weisberger's 2003 novel of the same name. David Frankel, who is a director of TV series “Sex And The City”, directs the movie. One of the important positions of this movie is the stylist. Patricia Field, who is the stylist of same TV series as David, is chosen for this delightful part. Meryl Streep plays slave driver Miranda, and Anne Hathaway plays a main character Andrea.

In New York, the naive, simple just-graduated in journalism Andrea is hired to work as the second assistant of the powerful and sophisticated Miranda Priestly, the ruthless and merciless executive of the Runway fashion magazine. Andrea dreams to become a journalist and faces the opportunity as a temporary professional challenge. Andrea's job seems the dreamlike work that anyone longed for. However, it is filled with super severe and unreasonable demands from Miranda. The private life of Andy gradually becomes badly. Cross-purposes continue with lover Nate. On the other hand, with the support of people around her, Andrea changes her attitude and behavior more positively. She shifts to fashionable, confident, magnetic woman like Miranda. It affects her private life and the relationship with her boyfriend Nate, her family and friends. In the end, Andrea learns that life is made of choices.

The story is not so diverting and emotional, but many crucial elements like music, frame works, costumes, and actor generate a synergistic effect for the movie. Many famous fabulous fashion brands Including Prada, which is in the movie title, show up a screen one after the other as if it totally turns up a fashion magazine from next to next. It must be pleasure and enjoyable not only for a person who love brands, but also the person who is not very interested in a fashion.

Which city is suited for you?

Do you drive a car when you hang around a city? If your answer is Yes, I recommend you to live in Seattle more than in Tokyo. If your answer is No, you might feel comfortable to live in Tokyo. Facilities for communication are one of the crucial points for most of people who are looking for their new living place. As you know, transportation depends on not only a country but also a city. Though my experiences that I’ve lived in two different country’s cities, which are Seattle and Tokyo, I figured out how closely linked with transportation and lifestyle. Today I will propose you which city is suited for your lifestyle. There are many differences in transportation between Tokyo and Seattle especially, Car, Bus, and Train, which is included Subway.

Car is one of the most essential means of transportation now. Traffic jam, Highway, and Parking are important aspects to consider living in the city with own car. Seattle has a little traffic jam in downtown. On the other hand, Tokyo’s one is really heavy. Despite downtown, you must be annoyed with transportation anywhere in Tokyo. Look at the highway. If you take highways in Seattle, you can go anywhere for free. In contrast, highway tolls are charged in Tokyo. The toll fares are anywhere in the city $7.00. Nonetheless, once you go outside of the city you should pay more. It depends on a running distance. One more thing that you should consider is parking. In Seattle, there are many free parking areas except in downtown. Even if you park in downtown, it costs about $7.00 for 2 hours. Meanwhile, the average of parking fee In Tokyo is $6.00 per hour. In addition, there is little free parking more like a shortage of parking in Tokyo.

Let’s move on the next point. It is bus. The bus in Seattle is satisfactory. There are over 100 of lines and also its drivers are kind instead of less information of each bus stop. If you don’t have any ideas which bus stop you should get off, a driver tell you whenever you ask. Tokyo also has an excellent transportation. You can catch a bus at short intervals like every 7~10minits. But bus routes are less than Seattle’s one. Another feature of a bus in Japan is abundant information of each bus stop. You can hear an announcement, which is filled with a plentiful information of each bus stop, on buses. Therefore, you can realize which bus stop is the best for you to get off without asking a driver. From these reasons, Japanese bus drivers are less open-mind than Seattle’s.

The last main transportation in city is train. It is not popular in Seattle. There are a few lines in the city due to people who live in the city use buses as a main transportation. On the other hand, trains and subways are main transportation in Japan. There are over 100 lines of it. As a result, you can find many ways to go to your destination. Sometimes it makes you confused but, it is very convenient. All trains and subways always arrive on time, and are running every 3 minutes to 10 minutes. The running time depends on a line. If you don’t want to late for your appointment or meeting, you should chose trains or subways in Tokyo. Then, you will be able to arrive almost on time. There is no traffic jam in this transportation.

Through these information, now you might understand which city is suited for your lifestyle. Let me show you my case. If I chose to live in Seattle or Tokyo, I prefer latter. The most important point of transportation for me is how plentiful public transportation the city has because I don’t drive. Moreover, going to my destination on time with shortest waiting time is also essential point for me, so I chose Tokyo to live in. When you look for your living place, don’t forget to consider the transportation in a city where you want to live. Even though, it is neither Seattle nor Tokyo

Celebrated Holiday in JAPAN

How are you going to spend the New Year this year? the New Year is one of the most celebrated holidays in the world. This is the same for Japan too. We have a lot of traditional customs in the New Year. Usually most of people don’t work on the first three days of the New Year. On these days, the people go to shrines, visit relatives and friends, drink sake and eat special new-year dishes, called Osechi.

At the beginning of the year, people visit shrines to pray for happiness and a healthy year. This is the most important Shinto event in the New Year, and we call it Hatsumoude. It is one of the few occasions when many people wear kimonos. People also buy lucky charms and draw sacred lots to tell their fortunes for the year.

After Hatsumoude, people visit relatives and friends to celebrate the New Year. Children look forward to this event, because they can receive New Year’s money from not only their parents but also their extended family. It is one of the greatest pleasures for children during the New Year holiday. This event is also enjoyable for adults. Usually they hold a New Year party even past the first three days of the New Year.

The first three days of January, people drink sake and eat special new-year dishes, called Osechi. New Year's dishes are all prepared after the year-end house cleaning on New Year's Eve. The dishes differ from one area to another but the foods that make up Osechi each have a special meaning associated with good luck. These days, more people buy Osechi in department stores, online stores, high-end French and Italian restaurants, instead of making it at home. Expensive Osechi which costs more than US$200 is also selling well.

This is the traditional way people spend the New Year's Holiday. The New Year is one of the most celebrated and important holidays for the Japanese. So if you want to experience Japanese culture, I recommend you enjoy a homestay in Japan during the New Year’s Holiday.

My Favorite Place at UW

The quad is very important place for UW students. It is located in the middle of campus, and feels like the heart of the campus. It got its name from its shape, which is shaped like a square. There are many roads crossing and many trees along the road. It is beautiful when the leaves change color. I can feel the season changing. There are also lights along the road when it gets dark. On the side of the road, there is green grass. People enjoy their relaxation time in their own way, by lying down, playing Frisbee, doing yoga, reading a book, and so on. When I lie down on the grass, I can hear the gentle melodies from the music building. There are beautiful old buildings around the quad, I can feel how large and historical the campus is. As you can see, the quad is the place of recreation and relaxation for all students in UW campus.

I Am...

I Am

I am small and smiling

I wonder which clothes to put on today

I hear my friends laughing

I see the moon shining brightly

I want sweet chocolate

I am small and smiling

I pretend to be a girl

I feel very happy

I touch and hold a soft pillow

I worry about my dears

I cry when I feel lonely

I am small and smiling

I understand how important love is

I say I am always with you

I dream everybody’s happy smile

I try to enjoy my life

I hope to bring joy to everyone

I am small and smiling
